allogeneic mesenchymal progenitor cells prepared from subcutaneous adipose tissue of healthy donors (18–40 years old), collected by liposuction. The adipose tissue is digested and the released cells placed in culture medium containing insulin-transferrin-selenium, recombinant human basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), and recombinant human epidermal growth factor (EGF). The cells are frozen at an early passage (Master Cell Bank / Working Cell Bank), and then resuscitated and culture expanded to around passage 7. The cells express mesenchymal progenitor cell marker CD73, CD90, and CD105 (>95%) and do not express human leukocyte antigen (HLA) DR, CD14, and CD45 (<2%). The cells are capable to differentiate into chondroblasts under standard in vitro tissue culture-differentiating conditions and demonstrate the inhibitory effect of mesenchymal progenitor cells on the proliferation of T lymphocytes.
